What happens after High School?
Graduation is a big milestone, but it can also bring a lot of questions about what comes next. You may have heard phrases like
transition planning
or
career transition services during IEP meetings, but those terms are not always clearly explained.
Transition planning is really about preparing for adult life. It means figuring out your interests, and exploring options for what you want to do after high school.
For some students, the path after high school looks a little different than it does for their classmates. Many students with IEPs take part in the graduation ceremony with their class but continue working on skills and goals through transition services until around age 22.
This extra time can be used to focus on things like job training, independence, and preparing for adult responsibilities.
Everyone moves at their own pace, and the goal is to make sure you have the skills and support you need for what comes next.
